Ignoring your choices to the previous 2 questions, please answer the following questions with one of the following choices “permissible”, “obligatory”, or “forbidden”.
(Permissible=allowed,Obligatory=required or compulsory, Forbidden=not allowed)
3. In a hypothetical scenario, a train moving on the tracks is heading towards a group of 5 people(strangers). The train will crash and kill the 5 people who are on the tracks, unless Joe, pulls a lever which will detour the train onto a side track, but there happens to be 1 person(stranger) on that side track. Is it “permissible”, “obligatory”, or “forbidden” for Joe to pull the lever?
4. There are 5 dying patients in the hospital, each with different organ failures. They will die if they do not get a transplant. There are no organ’s available on the transplant list. There is a healthy man in the waiting room. Is it “permissible”, “obligatory”, or “forbidden” for the doctor to kill and harvest the organs of the healthy man in order to save the 5 patients?
5. Same scenario as #3. Except, Joe can push a heavy weight off a bridge onto the tracks to stop the train. Is it “permissible”, “obligatory”, or “forbidden” for Joe to push the heavy weight?
6. Same scenario as #5. Except, the only heavy weight is a fat man minding his own business. The fat man, if dropped, will stop the train. Is it “permissible”, “obligatory”, or “forbidden” for Joe to push the fat man?
7. A young child is drowning in a pool, and you’re the only one there. You can save him but you’ll ruin your clothes. Is it “permissible”, “obligatory”, or “forbidden” for you to save the child?
